Witanagemot

Outside the British Isles, England is often erroneously considered synonymous with the island of Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales) and even with the entire United Kingdom. Despite the political, economic, and cultural legacy that has secured the perpetuation of its name, England no longer officially exists as a governmental or political unit unlike Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, which all have varying degrees of self-government in domestic affairs.
The Witanagemot club is a loose collection of bloggers that believe that the current constitutional settlement is disadvantageous to England and support the creation of an English Parliament.

Yellow Swordfish does not necessarily endorse or agree with all of the views of other Witanagemot members.

The JDOCD Doll Lady
Posted on April 23, 2008 in Movie People by Andy @ Yellow Swordfish14 Comments »

There is a lady who, for the sake of anonymity, I shall simply refer to as ‘Heathrow’ and who suffers from a bad case of JDOCD as does, of course, my wife. Somehow these people find each other. I really do have no idea how but before you know it there is a little network of sufferers from various points on the globe all talking and supporting each other and sharing, no doubt, their Depp fueled fantasies.

Heathrow – who I will say is a lovely lady and who visits us from time to time bearing a box of London Cheesecakes just for me – is also very talented and started making these little dolls of all her JDOCD fueled friends.

When she bought the small effigy of my wife into the house I was struck by how she had managed, just in felt and wool, to capture the essence of my other half. And because, of course, I am such a jolly nice chap and perhaps because I allow these obsessed women to gather at my house from time to time, Heathrow presented me around Christmas with a little doll of myself.

And that’s it up in my current banner. And is it me? Absolutely!

But Heathrow has gone further and has made a small handful of dolls of Mr Depp for her closest friends representing their favourite Depp movie characters and pictured here are just three of the best.

At the top, of course, ‘Sweeney Todd – The Demon Barber of Fleet Street‘ in which Heathrow has perfectly captured that psychotic look that Depp wore throughout the film.

Next up is Fred Abberline from the film ‘From Hell‘ which is the wife’s favourite and is sitting now, on her desk.

To round out the three is a sadly fuzzy photo of Raoul Duke who was, of course, the late Hunter Thompson in the Terry Gilliam file ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I have to say how that could be anyone’s favourite is beyond me but still.

I include this one despite it being badly focused just to give a little excitement to any JDOCD sufferers who may read this as those fingers clutching the doll are… yes ladies… Johnny’s.

This one belongs to him.

And when it was presented to him he apparently was quite taken with it and thanked Heathrow in his best Hunter Thompson voice.

(When I put this item together I asked Heathrow if she minded. She seemed surprised that I wanted to write about a pastime that she felt herself was ‘bordering on lunacy’. She also said that Abberline’s hair didn’t look mussed like that when she made it but, as I pointed out, I think my wife likes the ‘just got out of bed’ look. We also talked about whether to include the picture at the top – me and my good wife – as I was not originally going to. But as Heathrow said it would give her a laugh to see it, how could I not? I have no comment however on why she is brandishing a knife in one hand and holding handcuffs in the other).

    Hi Andy!

What a joy to see Heathrow’s beautifully crafted dolls posted here first thing this morning! Those of us with JDOCD do need our therapies…and I love the doll she sent me. She totally captured me as well!

The best part of these gifts are that they are from the heart! I have no doubt that the smile and giggle it brought from Mr. Depp was from the heart as well.

The world needs more Heathrows, for surely it needs more smiles and giggles as never before! Thanks Heathrow!

ANDY!!!! I’m in heaven!!!! How can I get a Sweeney??? Does she make Jack dolls? They are charming, quirky, fabulous! The woman is an artist in wool! A Picasso! A Rembrandt!

Oooh, I have come down with a severe case of the covets!

    *oh dear, I’m blushing again*

  3. on 24 Apr 2008 at 4:12 pm3Andy @ Yellow Swordfish

@Jansy: I should have made a point of saying Heathrow doesn’t sell these and forgot. There again I just can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would want one! :)

  4. on 24 Apr 2008 at 5:27 pm4Jansy

Oh dear…and oh well. (But she could probably do pretty well at it.)

There’s no way to explain it to you, since you’re living with “a sufferer” and still don’t understand. LOLOL

  5. on 24 Apr 2008 at 8:58 pm5heathrow

    Blushes.
Thanks Andy. The pics are great. What has happened to your wife’s hair? LOL As to the knife and handcuffs, it’s from the film. ( our story and we’re sticking to it.LOL)
    Karenh – bless you.
Jansy – I’m touched- Picasso LOL. sorry none for sale. I’m way too busy for that but thanks for being so sweet about them.

@heathrow: let me get this straight. Both my wife’s hair AND Fred Abberline’s hair are all mussed and not as they should be…. makes you wonder what they’ve been getting up to doesn’t it?

  7. on 25 Apr 2008 at 1:35 am7heathrow

ROFL . Andy, I think some of our daftness is rubbing off on you my friend. x

  8. on 25 Apr 2008 at 3:55 am8clutch68rs

oh, c’mon now. How could the HST film *not* be anyone’s favorite. That doll is spot on…I love it! The cigarette on the lips…and is that a vial of mescaline in his left hand? perfect! He would be proud.

Andy, every time she posts a picture of herself or Dear Fred,
their hair gets messier and messier! I’d keep an eye on her
    if I were you!

Heathrow is a marvel, she captures all of us so well, it is
indeed an honor to have one of her dolls! Mine wears a
21 Jump Street letterman’s jacket, pink of course and a
    sparkley tiara.

They remind me of South Park animation. :)

  11. on 25 Apr 2008 at 7:42 am11heathrow

@clutch68rs – No, that’s a fly-swat in his left hand. The drugs case is in his right. LOL

  12. on 25 Apr 2008 at 10:18 pm12clutch68rs

Heathrow: drugs case? LOL….outstanding! I would pay handsomely for one of the HST models, but respect your principle not to over-produce these wonders. Please, keep sharing their pics, however :)

  13. on 28 Apr 2008 at 7:04 pm13Jansy

Heathrow – sincerely, they are just adorable! The Picasso comment was NOT idle flattery!!

And listen, if we ever become BFF’s I want a Sweeney? Savvy?? ROFLOL
