Now They’ve Got It In For My Wine
Posted on October 16, 2007 in PC and Other Nonsense by Andy @ Yellow Swordfish8 Comments »

I remember seeing a comedy sketch once (Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis) where two men sat at a restaurant table going through the menu and dismissing each option because, at some time, they had been told by this report or that report, that the specific item was unhealthy or bad for them. They ended at the coffee which also, of course, had to be ignored.

Today it’s the turn of alcohol again. Having been told for years that a glass of red wine a day is good for my heart I am now suddenly told that it’s going to kill me. Well it wont, of course. The fags will do that!

But what I really want to do is get you to read my friend Mike Power’s take on this – Quick, pour me a stiff drink – because this is exactly the piece I wanted to write.

    Oh for crying out loud, it’s just the communists attacking the English middle class again. Maybe they can have a chat with Tony Blair’s son. You know, the one they found passed out, slumped on the pavement!
    I am not what the commies would call middle class and i’ve been drunk quite a few times. Money does not mean more chances of getting pissed. In my opinion, it means there is less chance of getting drunk. I dare say that middle class people are more likely to be educated and therefore (usually) know more about the risks of drinking too much.
    New labour are obsessed with class.
    Well, let me tell them I will be drinking to excess on saturday because I can. I deepely resent some scottish communist idiot telling me that I can’t drink! Oh, just for the record I am at university studying. And, I am not what the obsessed new labour champagne socialists would call middle class either.
    Oh before I forget, the bar at Westminster is a law unto itself. Maybe a reporter could do a story on it one day. That would show the hypocrite mp’s up for what they are!!

    See? This is my argument. I’m dieing anyway. It’s inevitable. Why in hell should all these people I don’t know have any say in how it happens?

    @M Anderson

    Good article …. I particularly liked his closing statement.

    Can’t wait for the day some government funded research discovers that working more than five hours a day is seriously harmful or that paying tax leads to health damaging stress. Yeah, right.

    There’s probably more proof for that than anything….Oy Gordon?

    [...] it. As far as I can tell, however, they seem to have ignored it. So, back to the recent item Now They’ve Got It In For My Wine. Anyone watching the BBC news broadcasts regarding the report that so many of us are drinking too [...]
