If you knew me really well, you’d know that there are several things that, shall we say, give me pause for worry. OK – let’s be honest… there are several things that scare the shit out of me.
One of the major ones is heights. I’m just fine on a tall building, even an open spaced roof, as long as I can’t see straight down. I nearly needed help last year up the CNN Tower in Toronto just by casually glancing through the glass floor to the pavements and roads below.
There was no way, of course, that I could have walked on it. Heights, of an unpredictable sort, have always given me a problem.
So in that naive and rather stupid way, I feel that I have been a little hero over the last couple of days. This is a picture of the Capilano Suspension Bridge constructed over the Capilano Gorge and River in North Vancouver.
You will notice that it’s a long bloody way from the ground.
Being a suspension bridge constructed of two cables and planks of wood, it also sways, tilts, jiggles and dances – especially when there are a coachload of pensioners and a large group of schoolchildren on it! Like there were when I crossed over it twice yesterday.
Twice!
And today I rode a cable car up a mountain to a ski resort. See – quite the brave one! I even managed to look down through the tops of the trees to the ground below.
Another deep rooted fear of mine is water. Big boats – good. Small boats – not so good! So just to conquer this one, tomorrow we are off in search of whales.
Good for you, Andy. That’s beautiful picture of a spectacular landscape and scene … from here.
Tomorrow I hope you can lose yourself in the pleasure of seeing the whales and not be preoccupied with your concern about the water. Remember you just can’t do that sort of thing on dry land.
WOW!! go Andy…I’m proud of you mate…and awestruck..I too have wobbly legs on the heights issue..Buildings fine..open areas where I could be blown off or wobble and faint and then plunge to my death …no, not good.
good luck with the whale hunting, hope they don’t rock your dingy too much aye?
