I didn’t really want to comment on the terrorist outrages that ravaged London this morning. It is an evil and appalling act that accomplishes nothing. It is a fruitless and unimaginable way for ordinary citizens to lose their life or their future health. My heart goes out to all involved.
But I was slightly lifted by one small thing this evening that shows that the good old fashioned British ’stiff upper lip’ is still alive and working for us. Following the news at 7pm, The Archers was broadcast as usual.
Other nations – especially the USA – unused to years of terrorist activity on their shores – would probably have still been dedicating their evening talk radio broadcasts to theories and stories and unnecessary and intrusive interviews with survivors. But BBC radio 4 knows how to keep a sense of that old fashioned ‘British Spirit’.
Of course we kept going as usual,if the Luftwaffe couldnt bomb us into submission then a load of half assed ragheads dont have a hope.
