Following on from my thanks to Pink Floyd another highlight from Live 8 was the video of Brian Wilson and his band who performed in Berlin.

The music of Brian Wilson is timeless. Even if you hate the music of the Beach Boys it is almost impossible not to tap the foot and be lightened by it. It is pure ‘good time’ music. Anyone who knows of Brian’s psychiatric struggles over the last 35 years or so can only wonder at the bravery he has shown more recently in facing his demons and an audience once again. At times he looked unsure – like he really wanted to flee the stage. And that brief moment where he forgot the words to God Only Knows bought the tears to my eyes.

I salute the man. Thanks again for another soundtrack to my life and for showing a different kind of personal courage.
