The Eyes Have It
Posted on August 4, 2006 in Politics by Andy @ Yellow Swordfish4 Comments »

I don’t know if it’s just my imagination, but has anyone else noticed Tony Blair’s eyes lately?

As the picture below shows – taken when he was a bright young thing full of hope and promise at around the time he became Prime Minister – his eyes seemed to be a rather definite, if a little murky, blue.

Watch him now as I did yesterday at his monthly press conference and they look almost black. Like two little, squinty black holes.

My wife generously thinks that he is wearing dark contact lenses. But as there is something almost Faustian about the look I much prefer the notion that he carries a receipt for his soul in his breast pocket. It would certainly explain a few things.

The banner at the top is just my small way of apologising to the peoples of Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan. OK – and the French.

Humm, it would explain a lot wouldn’t it. It ocurred to me the other day while watching him on tv that there was more than a passing resemblance to Ian Holm in the last couple of scenes from ‘From Hell’. JDOCD reference there. I’m sure you’ve seen the film. if not ask the wife.

This is a good obervation and you are absolutely right. I’m glad someone else had noticed this. It is almost supernatural…

As an aside – From Hell is the ‘favourite’. I have heard it so many times (well seen it and been in the next room while it is on) that I can probably recite much of the dialogue. Actually, speaking personally, I think of it as a pretty good Robbie Coltrane movie… :)

I always thought he had dodgy eyes (like his mate, Bush), That Satchi campaign was on to something all those years ago.

Hmm… that top picture reminds me quite a lot of someone else. I’m not entirely sure, but after a minute’s thought I think it might be Jonathan Aitken…

And be fair, I get the impression that at least some of the native everyday people of Afghanistan are quite happy about the invasion. After all, they can get back to growing opium now.
