You were "green" in 1967. You still are.

BTW, Lebanon is not a country. It's a hotch-potch of terrorist groups

For every £ spent on petrol, about 80p goes to the UK treasury. Fighting in the middle east puts up the price of oil, the wholesale cost of petrol goes up 1p and the Treasury gets another 4p in tax. They don't care how expensive oil is, they can't help but make a profit out of it.

As for the Israeli's, I have nothing but contempt for them. They're bullies and terrorists and hypocrites. They "frustrate the will of the international community" just like the Iraqi's did and that was justification for an invasion of Iraq. They ignore UN resolutions just like Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, etc. and this is justification for an invasion everywhere but Israel.

@Jeni: Welcome back - I like your style.
This is what never ceases to truly amaze me. The US (and us) are dependent upon Middle East oil. Yet for about as long as I can remember they have meddled and rubbed the region up the wrong way. You'd think they'd want peace, stability and friendship. True they plough money and aid in when required but their diplomacy and political relations are awful. I know they have a huge Jewish lobby in the US but they never seem able to say 'enough is enough - too many deaths'. I firmly believe Palaestine could have been resolved decades ago if the US had been even-handed. Now, it may be too late.

I have to admit my knowledge of world politics is not my strong point but I feel it's foolish to assume that America has any interest in helping to gain peace and democracy in the Middle East. While the Bush Administration pokes around stoking fires, there is little possibly that the region can organise itself into the world wide influential power it has the potential to be. This, it would seem, is the main objective. As for Blair, well there's only one thing I'm convinced he knows for sure and that is what arse tastes like.
