You see I <em>have</em> met people over there who live in constant fear and believe everything Homeland Security, the White House, Cheney and their buddies at Fox tell them. I have talked to these people! I grew up in the London area in the 1960's and 70's and I have been in more bomb scares and evacuations than I care to remember. There was a period there in the early 70's when the IRA were detonating a bomb in London weekly (funded, I might add, almost exclsuively by the US organsation 'Noraid'). See I know what it's like. OK - there was never anything as monstrous as the WTC attack but there were whole buildings and there were many deaths and these were <em>regular</em>. You just learnt to live with them and go about your life. And as with the IRA, the only way to deal with these people is not to live in fear and to let themselves learn that their violence is useless. One day, everyone has to talk. No terrorist organisation (as far as I am aware) has ever achieved it's ends without eventually coming to the table. If Bush had that understanding of history you wouldn't be in the mess you are today.

I haven't been in New York since the WTC fell. I am coming over in October actually for my first visit to a city I used to visit regularly. (I used to work for a company based in Roseland NJ so was a regualar visitor through the 1990's). Bu where would I like to live? I like the climate in San Franscisco...

:0 don't you just love odd coding issues lol I thought it was just my quotes too but then I scanned up the page to make sure it wasn't just me ;)

as for the topic ... I know not everyone blames the people of the country it's just seeing so much of it directed at the people makes me feel so helpless and I would love to travel myself but these days i would feel very outcast or at least it's the impression i get from topics read online.

i live in new jersey literally 15 minutes away from were the wtc used to be. it's one thing to have watched that on the news but to feel the ground shake and watch the towers fall in person and watch that cloud of smoke rise into the air miles high and miles long for days and days... it's a lasting impression! I'm 38 yrs old the towers had been there my whole life... no matter what road you are in in this area you could see them. the gapping whole where they used to be is a constant reminder.

every day i drive my wife to the train that goes into nyc and every day we hug at the train and say i love you because really we know for a fact that those trains are a target and we live with that :( we don't cower we don't hide but for us it's a known fear.

now I agree that wallmart is not going to be bombed most people don't have any reason to worry at all. but where we live we live with knowing that one day, some day this will happen again and next time I could loose someone I love very much. but we still live and I find more of the people that live closest to what happened are the ones that continue to live! I think you'd find less people here are as worried as you'd think I don't see very many sitting in fear waiting - could the perception of our citizens fear of the next attack also be fox type media hype? that the rest of the world is buying?

I don't watch fox or any tv news in fact - i get my news online from 3 sources cnn, npr, bbc :) TV news is just infotainment and I just dont have any interest in it. web based news at least lets me find out what all the sides to a story are.

any way enough of this --- there are better things we can talk about ;)
nice to meet you btw...
where did you plan to move if you did move to the states...

I have no ideas on the quotes I"m afraid but I think it must be the codes coming from your end as it seems unique to you.
If you read all my items that deal in some way with America you"ll fnd that I am a great fan of the country and the people. Indeed we were toying with the idea of coming to live there until Bush/2 happened.
Now I sort of find a lot of people seem to be living their life in a trance or on hold. Too many seem to buy the "Fox News" line and live their life convinced they are going to be bombed on their next trip to Walmart. Nobody has noticed that nothing has happened for 6 years. And it quite possibly will happen but there is no point spending years cowering under a table.
I"d still like to live there actually and we visit regularly. But I need for that air of "fear" that has been spread to be lidted. You"re going to need a good Bush replacement for that to happen...

@andy - lol one man didn"t, he"s got his entire huge machine behind him :( the scariest thing to me... like anything that"s done in government it at times takes 10 - 20 years before you really see the ramifications of the things that were done. We only know what we see now what we already know. How much is done behind closed doors... what policies changed in drastic ways that we really aren"t aware of yet...............

Yes we"ll soon be bushless but what he"s done will be lingering far longer.

What I"m asking though is, don"t hate the american people themselves for what the government of a country has done. if we all kept up like that we"d all have a reason to hate everyone. At one point in history or another we"ve all had our dark days, bad leader, bold times where our governments felt it was their birthright to take over foreign lands. Honestly every major nation has had it"s moments. If we all counted all those times forever into the future we"d all hate each other. I just want to be judged for MY actions fir the person I AM.

Oh and btw I got your gallery plugin working although in IE 7 it appears to layout a little funky... still looking into that though could be a css thing nice plugin though :)

@efoiv - Well I can only but agree with what you are saying regarding the power behind Bush. What really amazes me is how 7 short years can can do so much damage at home, abroad, with foreign relations, the economy etc., and be so devisive within. I would have said a few years ago that one man couldn"t achieve all that in such a short time but there you go - I would have been wrong. Sasdly, it will probably take longer to repair the damage but there will be a huge sigh of relief around the world when Bush throws in the towel.
