Guy Goma, pictured here sitting in the BBC News 24 studio, was, as surely everyone must know, the chap who was mistakenly interviewed in place of Guy Kewney, the famed IT writer. In the unlikely event that you missed it, both ‘Guys’ happened to be in the studio at the same time, Kewney to comment on the Apple v Apple lawsuit, and Goma, to seek a job. When ‘Guy’ was called, Goma stepped forward for what he thought was a job interview but was shepherded straight into the glare of the camera and a little bit of history was born.
And there really, it should have ended. Goma had his five minutes of fame and the world had a good laugh. Except, as reported in todays Independent, Goma has been inundated with offers, including book deals and the chance of a Hollywood movie based on his fleeting appearance. He’s got himself a publicist and has already signed up for his first advertising contract. One minute he is desperate for work, and the next, through the remote fluke of there being two men called ‘Guy’ in the same room at the same time, he is heading towards being a millionaire. Lucky guy.
