There are many things I don’t understand about the relationship between Bambi and the Shrub. Actually – nobody has called Tony Blair Bambi for a long time now but it’s easier to type.
From the US neo-conservative Christian standpoint, (oh hell, let’s just say Republican bigots and be done with it), Bambi represents everything they despise, except perhaps for his religion. First and foremost he is – so we in the UK are told – a Socialist. That’s what we call them anyway. The Republicans call them names like Pinko’s or Commies. People who call themselves Socialists are worse than Democrats. They are Liberals for God’s sake; the enemy. And isn’t the Shrub the number one Republican bigot? Even if he doesn’t know what it means. And if that is not bad enough, Blair is a European to boot.
On the other hand, a poll taken of British voters in 2004 clearly identified the Shrub as the most dangerous leader in the world. A huge number of Brits – especially the pinko’s and commies who have put Bambi in office for so long, regard Bush as a joke that would be hilarious if he didn’t have so much power. We don’t trust him one millimetre (which is a European measurement and is a very small fraction of an inch) and we generally despise the power base that drives him.
Americans – especially the new breed of fundamentalist Christian right-wingers – have tended to view the ‘Special Relationship’ with the UK as being no longer relevant. At the same time, the British clearly don’t like a ‘Special Relationship’ with the Shrub. So I just don’t understand why these two men are holding hands.
