I had a follow up from my wife regarding the item My Dog is not my Daughter. Added to the banned word bitch, are hell and damn. But not, surprisingly, the word bugger. Which suggests that the sensibilities of the American board owners and subscribers can’t cope with hell and damnation but are perfectly OK with a bit of sodomy.
Which is strange really, because I thought the neo-conservative Christian right believed that hell and damnation was exactly the just reward for all buggers.

It’s not just our sensibilities, it’s the linguistic divide. Few Americans use the word bugger, and I would guess that few know what it means. Well, aside from “something people in England say when they get annoyed.”
Similarly, the word bitch has come to be used more often as a personal insult than to refer to actual dogs.
I knew this really. My tongue was quite firmly in my cheek! But it’s exactly because of this that it appeals to my sense of humour.
I should’ve realized that. Someone did exactly the same thing to one of my own posts last week. Sorry!
